A Small Request

This Indiana boy wants to do some LA sight-seeing on this upcoming trip. I am talking walk-of-fame, Hollywood sign, Universal Studios type touristy stuff. Sure, I would like to go to the Geddy, MOCA and LACMA too, and I will, but I need to do this trip like a true out-of-towner. So what do you say you Southern California inhabitants? Is it a deal? Get your cameras ready!
Oh, I would also like to go to an amusement park.

Since you're getting in Friday late afternoon, and the family get together is Saturday, and you're leaving Wednesday, that only gives you 3 days to do stuff. You have to take into account that to go into LA, and come back same day takes 5+ hours of travel time out of your day. So, if you wanna do a lot of stuff in LA, you probably better figure on staying in there. Could probably be arranged through family members who live in there. Lots of stuff you're talking about are all-day activities, so you need to figure out what you REALLY want to do, and then we can plan for that. Mike & Amber live near Magic Mountain, which is roller coaster heaven. Jeff & Kalaine live near Disneyland, which is a must-see if you've never been. Seeing the walk of fame and the Hollywood sign is a quick trip, and other things can be added on the same day...museums for instance. I wouldn't try to go back and forth between our place and LA everyday though...too much travel time. You should think about what things are must-sees, and factor in the time you'll have, and we'll plan from there.

Yeah, we were planning on staying in LA. I also thought we were coming in on the 16th instead of the 19th so I realize some of my tourism will have to wait. I am thinking that I will focus on art museums mainly then see where to go from there. MOCAs, LACMA and the Geddy all have excellent collections that I have never seen before. I figure that's two days right there and I can mix in my walk of fame desire on one of those days. That can even be trimmed down since I would like to see the new family as much as possible and I realize that three art museums in two days may be the height of fun, most people wouldn't. Standing for hours a day around art tends to wear people out.
I just realized I described my job with that last sentence.

Didja see that there is a new exhibit opening at the Getty on Tuesday the 23rd? Drawing the Classical Figure exhibit. Here's what it says:

Drawing the Classical Figure
December 23, 2008–March 8, 2009
Mastering the depiction of the human figure has long been a cornerstone of an artist's training. This survey of drawings from the 1300s to the 1800s examines how the rediscovery of classical sculpture influenced the ways in which artists rendered the human form. A selection of Italian, Flemish, Dutch, Swiss, French, and British drawings illustrates the powerful aesthetic, philosophical, and political forces that informed the representation of the classical figure.

If you want to see that, then Tuesday would be the best day to visit the Getty. So we could do a museum & an amusement park on Sunday & Monday, and the Getty on Tuesday.
